Thank you for your remember me and update information
I would love to open line communication with all old friends and co-workers in Laos and in Thailand. I was in U.S. Consulate in Udorn 1976.
I was in Udorn on two TDY’s and One PCS, from 1971 through 1975. I think it was the 432nd TAC wing for my PCS, just can’t remember for sure, (way to “key mao”)as a 462-bomb loader. I would very much like to reconnect with some of the guys I served with. Anyone that knew me just drop me an email.
Thank you for this website. Was stationed Udorn RTAFB 1968 – 1969, 432 Transportation Squad. I can’t belive it only took the government 40+ years to admit Agent Orange use in Thailand. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
1968 to 1969 engine mech and weapons and munitions
trying to substantiate agent orange claim with VA
Do you have any documentation regarding AO at Udorn?
I know I saw it used and worked on acft with it.
Was stationed at Udorn RTAFB June1968 to June 1969 with 20 th Special Operations Squadron. We had the HH-3E and the UH-1F Helicopters. We flew mainly re-supply to Cambodian and Laosian (sic) troops in the foward areas and in the mountians ( “Mountian Yards”) Anyone out there remember an A1C ( two striper) by the name of Blankenship???? If so, drop me an email @ larrykblankenship@gmail.com
I noticed you were stationed the same time I was there. This is my first time on this site still trying to get use to everything. So many memories both good and bad. What was it that played every day and if you were outside you had to come to attention until it was over? There was an after hours place we would go to that had a swimming pool and almost every night either beer bottles were being tossed or someone was being pushed into the pool.
I was stationed at Udorn from 1969-1971, Ubon from 1971-1972, and two other assignments in Thailand from 1972-1973 and 1975-1976. Joined the Air Force the same month as your Dad – January 1966.
Most of my work in Thailand was with the Aircraft Arresting Systems on the runways. I was always assigned to the Civil Engineer Squadrons.
I was stationed at Udorn from March 3, 19 69 – March 4, 1970. I was attached to the Half-Moon Outfit. Our AC-47′s were parked right next to the 555 F-4 Fantoms.
Wow!… lots of vivid memories pop in my head just writing this comment.
I was TDY May 1972 to October 1972 with the 307 TFS from Homestead AFB. I was a crew chief of the F4E . I must say it was quite a memorable time spent there.
Really enjoyed your website. I found it while researching some of my dad’s old assignments. He was stationed at Udorn 71-72. Unfortunately, he passed away a few years back, I’m sure he would have loved this site. His name Was Fred H. Jones, I think he was a TSgt at that time, worked on sensors(?) of some type.
Photo Interpreter, 432 RTS , 71-72 & 73-74. Involved with Compass Link and other spooky stuff. Main hangout in town was Thai Inn. Memories of poo ying?
Served with Det.1,56th Air Commandos, renamed special ops from08/68 to 09/69 as a 46250—-went up-country to lo8 and then to l39. Air America provided the ride.
Was stationed at Udorn Aug 1968 to Aug 1969. I was in Avionics Maintenance Squadron . I worked on the Automatic Flight Control Systems ( Auto-Pilot ) on all of the F-4s. I also debriefed aircrews for a month. I have many slides of the base and can convert them to jpegs for uploading. Would love to hear from anyone I worked with back then.
I was at Udorn October 1974-September 1975, Phase Maintenance Dock #5, servicing all (F-4) birds. Was there for the fall of Vietnam, Cambodia & Laos (the proverbial domino theory in action…), as well at the (Cambodian Khmer Rouge led…) Mayaguez Incident.
We overflew Vietnam every day (RF-4 recon missions) up until the loss of Saigon, and then flew cover missions (F-4E & F4-D, as well as RF-4 models) for Operation Eaglepull, as the friendlies were pulled out, then participated in the last combat missions of the Vietnam war era, as we tried to retrieve the American seamen of the container ship Mayaguez. We got them back, but at the loss of ~45 GI’s from all branches. The last MIA’s of the Vietnam war era were those few that got accidentally left behind on Koh Tang Island, and the last listings on the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington D.C. are those the died in the battle to recapture the Mayaguez. R.I.P. those that died in those last battles…
I had a great time in Thailand and still maintain relationships with other GI’s & Thai’s that were there. I got rotated back about 6 weeks early when they started doing the rollbacks to clear out of the base. No mission – no GI’s.
I was a 46270 at Udorn May 75-Jan.76. Served as crew chief on load training crew until we got kicked out of the country. Finnished remainder of my tour at Clark PI. Also served at DaNang Aug. 70-Sept.71 with 366th MMS and at Kunsan Korea From Feb. 73-Feb.74. Would love to hear from anyone I served with at any station.
Thanks for the work you are doing with this website!
Your Father’s pictures from Japan bought back many memories. I too enlisted in Jan. 1966 (USAF) and went to Lowery AFB in Colorado, for munitions training. I also went to Japan and was stationed at Yokota AB. As I looked at the pictures they bought back many memories as I have a lot of the same photos. The mountains , the small cities and the wonderful people. Now I will get my pics out again and compare the exact same locations as your father visited. Thank You, Tim
Thanks! I would be proud to post any pictures or videos you may run across and want to share
I hope you have had a chance to look through the pictures. If not, it might be a fun jog down memory lane. Many were submitted (via email) by Veterans like yourself. I always try and give credit to the photographers, and of course you would have to supply any captions (of people, places, planes, etc).
Looking forward to whatever gems you may run across in that shed of yours
At Udorn Dec 72 till Jan 76, then moved on the 388 at Hill, utah…was back in 432nd at Misawa AB Japan. Then sweet retirement. In 75 was working in the FOX area when GIB sat on a LGB and fired the seeker head off…..what a day…
Just checking back to read any new posts. This site has the most posts, of any site I’ve been on, from guys with Det 1. There must be a way of getting more people from Det 1 to hook up and share stories. I know there weren’t to many of us at one time, from what I remember (80-100, pilots included), but we’re not getting any younger. Anyone from Det 1 can contact me at: > slouzensky@hotmail.com < I'm still looking for the guys I worked and hung out with, real hard after all these years. Maybe we can get something going on facebook or something.
